Velvet Texture Clay - Matte Styling Clay for Texture, Body & Hold

Velvet Texture Clay is a matte styling clay that adds texture, lift, and body to hair without greasiness or buildup. With a lightweight formula and non-greasy finish, it enhances shape and definition while maintaining flexibility. Especially suited for short cuts and mid-length styles, it lets you sculpt and rework your hair while keeping it natural.

Key Benefits

- Lightweight, non-greasy matte finish

- Adds texture, body & lift without stiffness

- Keeps hair sculptable & reworkable

- Suitable for short and mid-length styles

- Ideal for second-day hair revival

- Avoids unwanted buildup or heaviness

Kaolin Clay - helps to give a light hold, add texture, provide a naturally matte finish and suitable for sensitive scalps.

Kigelia Africana Fruit - balances oil production to give hair a matte finish and has a high antioxidant content.

Petrolatum, Kaolin, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Parfum (Fragrance), Tapioca Starch, Isopropyl Myristate, Phenoxyethanol, Aqua (Water), Tocopheryl Acetate, Limonene, Propylene Glycol, Linalool, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract, Citral, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Extract.

Good quality product

"First off, the packaging for this product is quite classy. It comes in a little cardboard box in a pale putty colour which matches the colour of the product, so some thought has gone into it! The product is in a little glass jar with a tin lid - bonus points for this as it means all the packaging is recyclable, no plastic whatsoever. The clay has a scent which took me right back to church as it reminded me of the incense used there! It has a mildly spicy, woody aroma but it's very pleasant, not over-powering at all. The wax is quite solid, I found I had to really use my fingernail in order to be able to scrape it out, but I don't think it's meant to be soft, you need the thickness for hold. The instructions say to use only a very small amount, pea-sized is what they recommend, but I preferred to use an even smaller amount and apply it a little bit at a time to my hair. I have to admit here that I think my hair is really too long at the moment for this product to work really well, but I was impressed with it - there's no greasiness and I think it would have a good hold on shorter hair. All in all this is a good, quality product. At £29 for 50g at time of writing it is obviously a high-priced product but if it works well on your hair it's probably worth it - as you only use a very small amount at a time it's going to last for ages."

Good quality hair clay

"I'm really pleased with this clay. Not too sticky, easy to apply and hold was pretty good. My hair is short, so like just having some fairly light to hold it in place. Good quality packaging, not cheap, but a decent amount in the glass jar, should last quite a while. Highly recommended."

Expensive but goes a long way

"I got this for my son who has really thick and rather unruly hair, he's not a fan of having it cut very short due to his autism but likes to look smart and we have tried so many products in his hair to style it. When he was younger he used to like the blue dax wax but he's not so keen on it as he's got older and he says it feels greasy on his hands if he touches his hair so we've been regularly trying other things. He likes this on his hair and if he uses just the right amount he doesn't mind the feeling on his hands. You only need a little bit rubbed between your hands to warm it before applying to the hair. It's very expensive but you only need a bit so it should last a long time. The smell is really nice and it doesn't leave your hair greasy. I was expecting it to be a bit drying and chalky but it's not that either. I think the listing description of being velvet like texture is just right. It's easy to apply and holds the style well unless you mess with your hair too much. Would recommend despite the price."

Good styling with subtle fragrance

"This is a very dense, thick clay to help tame and add body to your hair. You only need a small amount to make a difference and this is easy to apply by warming the product between your fingertips and running it through your hair, thereby avoiding adding too much in one place. It has a very pleasant, subtle fragrance and makes your hair feel good. Given only a small amount is needed per use, it offers great value for money."

Great smell, good hold, velvety, no stickiness

"I am loving this hair clay, which is honestly so good in so many different ways. First of all, the consistency and texture of this clay is honestly divine. It's a velvety, very smooth and silky feeling clay that you first warm up in your hands before applying evenly to the hair. No greasiness, no stickiness. Just velvety, as the name suggests. What's important to note is that you need such a small amount that this 50g jar is going to last such a long time! At £29. 00 per jar (at the time of reviewing), this is honestly great value for money as I can see it lasting such a long time. When on the hair, the clay was successful in keeping my hair styled all day until I showered in the evening. No loose floppy strands; it really does the job. It gives a good hold but doesn't make the hair hard or crispy like so many other hair products. As an added bonus, the product smells great, which my son loves, so all in all, it's pretty awesome. I won't be going back! In short, great smell, good hold, a nice texture with no stickiness, professional packing, good value for money. Can't complain at all."

Ticks all the boxes

"I’ve been using American Crew Fibre for many years and, until recently, I thought it great. Unfortunately, American Crew decided to made a huge change to the formula and now it’s nothing like the product used to be. Since this disappointment I’ve been searching for a new hair product that ticks all the boxes. After 6 weeks of using the Larry King Clay, I think I can say I’ve found it. The Larry King Clay provides great body and texture to your hair, giving a natural look and feel as well as a nice subtle, matte finish. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling dry or stiff, which allows allow you to make tweaks throughout the day (if you so desire) It also doesn’t fell make you hair feel greasy. It lasts all day and washes out easily. Now, I must admit I didn’t quite get it right the first couple of times I used the product. I turned a bit of a blind eye to the instructions and scooped out rather too much, basing the amount of other products I’ve tried. But I have now learned that you really do need a very small amount. I’d say slightly less than a pea sized amount for short hair like mine. And this of course means the jar will last months and months! So, although the £29 asking price may seem steep initially, you won’t need to stump it up very often. Another thing I’ve found while using the product is that it benefits from a real good warm up between your hands before applying. The product has a slight scent which isn’t over-powering and is pleasant enough without being anything to write home about. And the glass jar and screw id give it a premium look. I just hope Larry King doesn’t meddle with the formula anytime soon…"

Q&A

  • "This clay adds body to any type of hair. The non-greasy, matte finish gives hold without creating that unwanted heavy product build up. Perfect for adding texture to short hair and a more grungy, 90s choppiness to mid-lengths."
