After passing your NVQ, you will continue to develop your skills in the salon as a junior assistant, helping and assisting where needed alongside the Larry King Team. You may also have opportunities to assist on fashion shows, internal and external shoots and some international travel to assist on session and fashion work. You will still attend late night training weekly to fully prepare you as a qualified stylist or colourist.
We offer a full apprenticeship at Larry King where you will gain your recognised NVQ Level 1 and 2. You will then receive further on-the-job training by our team of experts as well as dedicated late night training. You will be working in the salon environment: helping, watching and assisting the team where you will become a vital part of the salon and our Larry King Family. This is a busy role and you will be vital to the running of the salon. You will be expected to help to maintain the luxury service that Larry King offers its clients including cleaning, helping to present the salon beautifully, on the salon floor you will gain experience working and dealing with clients and assisting the team. In addition to contributing to salon life, there are also opportunities to assist on fashion shows, internal and external photoshoots and potentially even international travel to assist on session and fashion work. Gaining experience in our Larry King HQ, there are a variety of roles from sales operations, wholesale, marketing, social media and everything inbetween. As a busy company, we are always appreciative of helping hands, but also love being able to give back and help people with their learning.
When Laura and I set out to open a salon we wrote down on paper how we hoped it would be. It said we wanted to create a space, where staff are happy, where they wake up never dreading work, where they feel appreciated, respected and a part of a family. We wanted clients to feel welcome, never intimidated, like they’d walked into our home and were welcome to stay all day. We called it "A Social Life For Your Hair".
Larry, along with his wife and business partner Laura, opened a flagship salon in South Kensington in January 2017 which was swiftly named London’s Hottest New Salon by Tatler, Number One Salon 2018 by Harper’s Bazaar and Best London Salon for a blow-dry by the Telegraph. Followed in 2019 by a second salon nestled just off of Westbourne Grove in a beautiful mews, and a further space in Hotel De Paris in Monaco. Based on the ethos “a social life for your hair”, the salons are based on un-intimidating luxury and offers clients a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and appointments with its hand-picked stella team that includes award-winning colourists and stylists who are well regarded as some of the best in the world. Larry and Laura pride themselves in providing a happy and progressive working environment for their team. In November 2018, Larry and Laura launched Larry King Haircare to showcase Larry’s haircare heroes that he’s been mixing up behind the scenes and using on clients for years. Created with the demands of his clients in mind, Larry King Haircare consists of a range of multi tasking hair heroes that combine efficacy, innovation and sustainable packaging whilst looking and smell great. Larry King Haircare is now stocked in Britain's most iconic department stores Selfridges, Liberty, Harrods and Harvey Nichols, as well as online beauty powerhouses Cult Beauty, Flannels and Beauty Bay. It is also stocked globally in David Jones, Adore Beauty, Lane Crawford, Douglas and Laconicum.
