The Down Low on:
Skinny Lights
Want skinny lights? Or not quite sure what they are yet?
Meet the creamiest, whisper light blonde technique created by our very own blonde expert Harriet Muldoon for Sienna Miller. But what exactly is it? As Harriet explains; “it’s highlights on a diet!”.
This is everything you need to know for the new signature colour technique of the season.
Hi Harriet. Question; how would you describe Sienna’s new blonde colour?
Harriet: The return of the boho fashion has been huge this year and just like the hair In the late 2000’s I wanted to create a skinny, light weave. It’s highlights on a diet. Sienna is embracing the bright creamy scandi tones this season. I created contrast at the base by working with Sienna’s natural base colour, and scattered the highlights allowing some room for depth. Adding in a scandi hairline and backwash balayage gave the face frame centre stage with softness in the crown.
So what style references did you lean into?
Harriet: The inspiration came from those late 2000’s where we saw a soft, natural it girl blonde. I wanted to create something soft and seamless, which I achieved by using a Redken gloss to finish it with a smudge. It’s like a natural makeup equivalent for blonde hair, and it really leaves a seamless finish. It’s the perfect combo.
How is this different to Sienna’s signature blonde look?
Harriet: Sienna’s blonde is iconic and she rocks every look. Boho blonde just added a bit more contrast, with a more natural base coming through. It leaves a softer root blend with a scandi hairline to get full coverage.
OK, so talk us through the technique you used to achieve the look?
Harriet: The skinny light is a fine weave that gives a softer finish. The re-growth is easier to maintain and it’s a softer technique. I love to see a blonde with dimension, and love a stand-out hairline. It is the best way to contour the blonde.
What products are key to maintaining Sienna’s colour and style, and why do you love them?
Harriet: I love Larry's Good Life Shampoo for moisture and City Life for keeping your blonde bright. Adding just a few drops of Redken Blondage Shampoo into City life once a week or every other week will keep your blonde glowing.
And finally, why is this new shade of blonde so right for the new season?
Harriet: As we step into the cosier, cooler autumn months it’s nice to soften the blonde - so that softness at the base but with stand-out blonde around the edges and frame will be perfect.
