The Down Low on:
The Coolest Way to Grey

Why this chic colour technique is making waves

There’s been a cultural shift in how we view grey hair. Where once it was synonymous with ageing, now it’s an aesthetic choice, but it comes with some questions. When to do it? How to do it? Is it letting go or leaning in?

At Larry King London, we believe that choosing to go grey is an empowering style choice that deserves none of the negativity associated with it. Which is why we created our bespoke Grey Blending service, led by in-demand colour specialist Sarah Bower, who has quietly built a reputation as the go-to for subtly stylish cool ways to grey.

Whether you’re ready to embrace your natural greys or just want to soften the persistant tell-tale regrowth line, (known as ‘demarcation’ FYI) this service is about a modern, low-maintenance colour technique that works with your with your natural greys, not against them. Want to know how?

What is Grey Blending?

Put simply, Grey Blending is a precision colouring technique that uses lowlights or highlights to integrate grey hairs with your natural base colour, rather than masking them.

Sarah Bower, who spearheads the service at our Marylebone salon, describes it as:

“A way to meet your grey hair in the middle. It’s a subtle approach that reduces the stark contrast between regrowth and coloured hair.”

It’s perfect for those who are tired of the high-maintenance cycle of root touch-ups but aren’t quite ready for a full stop to colour, and our approach is bespoke from start to finish. Renowned for her cool colour craftsmanship and personal approach, Sarah hones each appointment to complement your hair type, skin tone and lifestyle.

Think of it as a chic makeover rather than a root touch-up; a subtle, empowering way to evolve your hair colour gracefully and achieve a style you genuinely love.

Who is it for?

Anyone who is sick of a high maintenance hair colour, and feels that it’s not the grey hair that’s the problem, it’s the roots. So they are ready to embrace their greys, but in the coolest way possible.

It works whether you’ve only got a few silvers at the temples or are halfway to a full un-pigmented statement.

As Sarah explained: “It’s about softening the line between dyed and natural. You’re not trying to hide the grey anymore, you’re enhancing it so it becomes part of your style.”

The process is a transformative journey. First the consultation to find out how you feel about your grey hair, then we do a process that can be anything from one to multiple appointments to create the vision. Either way you end up with a low maintenence, naturally flattering, colour that you’ll genuinely love.

How to Care for Greying Hair

Once you’ve started the grey blending process, or even if you’re going fully natural, your haircare routine might need a refresh. Greying hair can be more porous, prone to dryness, and sensitive to discolouration.

Here’s how to keep it super fresh:

1.     Moisture, moisture, moisture

Good Life is our most hydrating shampoo, and combined with our Liquid Hairbrush conditioner will keep hair soft and supple.

2.     Neutralise yellow tones
A gentle violet shampoo like our City Life Shampoo can help keep cool greys fresh, not brassy.

3.     Add shine back in
Lightweight oils (Like Spoilt For Choice) or in-salon glosses will help smooth and nourish the hair which helps reflect light and give hair a more expensive, polished look.

4.     Trim regularly
Even if you’re growing out your natural grey, regular shaping cuts will stop your hair from feeling or looking straggly or tired.

Thinking of Leaning In?

Grey Blending is more than a trend. It’s a mindset shift, a chance to own your natural colour with intention and style. Whether you’re at the beginning of your grey journey or ready to ditch full coverage for good, Sarah and the team are here to make it effortless.
